Selling Timeshare

However, you are free to use any resale company and the TATOC website lists several—including Worldwide Timeshare Hypermarket and Travel & Leisure Group. These companies have agreed to follow a strict Code of Ethics designed to safeguard the interest of consumers; or you can sell privately or transfer ownership to a relative.

Before choosing a resale company establish a “realistic” “net to you” price, e.g. by contacting more than one the companies mentioned above, and be very wary of any company that offers you a high and “out of line” resale value - if it sounds too good to be true it probably is; and unfortunately there are a number of timeshare sales scams around. For example, do not use anyone who telephones you saying that they have a buyer and all you need to do is pay a fully refundable sum up front, or travel to a resort either in the UK or in Europe to “close” the deal.

Be aware that any money paid “up front” even by credit card is not necessarily easily recoverable.

Remember, that just as the garage from whom you bought a new car from is under no obligation to sell it for you several years later, and at a price you think you should receive, neither is Macdonald Hotels & Resorts. Therefore, you need to consider a number of resale options and actively monitor progress.
